The Canyon to Confluence Initiative has been busy hosting and participating in a few events this spring which included the Waterwalker Film Festival, Jane’s Walk and Farmer’s Market. We also supported Golden Secondary School to organize a Water Festival which consisted of several learning stations geared around water and our environment that students rotated through on the last afternoon of classes. A big thank you to all the volunteers that contributed their energy and time.

Our biggest update is a potential funding opportunity for one of C2Ci’s project ideas. The Golden Community Economic Development Society put forward the Centennial Park upgrade to the Resort Municipality Initiative committee as a potential project and it has been shortlisted for consideration. You can find a whole lot more about the draft Resort Development Strategy on the Town of Golden website (https://www.golden.ca/draftrds). As an initiative based on community input we encourage you to provide your feedback on the strategy before July 22 and mention your support for community informed and guided development.

Above is a sketch of our ideas for Centennial Park that inspired this project. The guiding concept is to move the dyke in an arch away from the river and regrade the site to provide an accessible riverside park in the heart of downtown Golden.

We will work to inform our community on future input and engagement opportunities. If you have any ideas for this space you can use our Contact Form or talk to us at one of the upcoming community events we are participating in to raise awareness and talk about the C2Ci.

  • July 19 C2Ci is going to have a tent at Boogie on the Banks from noon to 8 pm at Confluence Park
  • September 13 we’ll be at the Fall Faire to share information about the project and receive input
  • September 21 is our new date for the 2nd Annual Community River Day at Confluence Park. We’ve moved a week earlier than BC Rivers Day on the 28th after feedback that the date was too close to Truth and Reconciliation Day which would limit the availability of Indigenous and Metis peoples.

We are excited that project ideas are garnering attention from multiple stakeholders and as we raise awareness we are building broad support for the initiative.
